Webinar
The upcoming webinar will bring together migration experts to examine public opinion in relation to return and readmission policies across Europe.
Recent policy shifts in Europe toward restricting the rights of foreign citizens and emphasizing returns and deportations reflect a growing alignment with nativist and securitisation discourses.
This trend is often traced back to assumption that restrictive discourses result in increase in vote with public opinion surveys shown as proof of negative attitude towards irregularised migrants. This leads to the belief that measures of public opinion is a key driver for policy. However, in a chicken-and-egg situation, media narratives over policy also have an impact on public opinion.
This webinar will explore public attitudes through large-scale quantitative surveys and qualitative analyses, shedding light on to what extend perceptions influence debates on regularization, enforcement, and border management.
Special attention will be given to variations in attitudes across different regions and demographic groups, with insights drawn from different case studies.
This webinar is organized as part of the Joint Webinar series and will be hosted by MORE project, funded by Horizon Europe. The contributions will be made from expert scholars on public opinion related to return and readmission from projects MORE, FAiR and GAPs.
